Review: Lord of the Rings Game

Title - Lord of the Rings
Developer(s)- Snowblind Studios
Genre(s) - Action RPG
Publisher - Warner Bros
Platforms - PC, Online, PS3, Xbox 360
Release Date - November 1, 2011

Despite being one of the most followed novel and movie franchises in the world, the Lord of the Rings
series has struck out when it comes to video games. With deep, rich mythology and an infinitely expandable universe, it's interesting to find that developers have trouble taking the source material and translating it into an enjoyable interactive experience.

The Lord of the Rings is a high fantasy epic written by English philologist and University of Oxford professor J.R.R. Tolkien. The story began as a sequel to Tolkien's earlier, less complex children's fantasy novel The Hobbit (1937), but eventually developed into a much larger work.

It was written in stages between 1937 and 1949, much of it during the Second World War. It is the second best selling novel ever written, with over 150 million copies sold.

Lord of the Rings is a co-operative game where the objects is to destroy the Ring while surviving the corrupting influence of Sauron.

Review: God of War III on PlayStation 3

Title - God of War 3
Developer - Santa Monica Studio
Genre(s) - Action Adventure
# of players - 1 Player
Publisher - Sony Computer Entertainment
Platform - Play Station 3

God of War 3 is the first game in the series built from the ground up for the PlayStation 3, and the team behind the title spared no detail; the game feels like it has been painted on your screen. Even the flashback sequences, using more traditional animation and a hyper-stylized look, add much to the game. It's a clever way of showing what came before without dealing with the graphics of the past.

God of War 3 is more than an action game: It's the conclusion to the commercially successful and critically acclaimed series that acts as the 'face' Sony's entire gaming brand; what Master Chief is to Microsoft and Mario is to Nintendo, Kratos is to Sony. As such, God of War III was burned with a Herculean set of tasks. But while it lives up to the high bar set by the previous installments, it can't quite bear the weight of bringing the epic story of Kratos to a meaningful end. It's still a finely crafted action experience that fully showcases the PS3's immense capabilities but it isn't the satisfying conclusion that fans both want and need.

A great action experience, with plenty of thrills and memorable moments;
improves upon the franchise formula in almost every tangible way.

Summary: Set in the realm of brutal Greek mythology, God of War III is a single-player game which allows players to take on the climatic role of the ex-Spartan warrior, Kratos, as he scales through the intimidating heights of Mt. Olympus and the dark depths of Hell to seek revenge on those who have betrayed him. Armed with double-chained blades, and an array of new weapons and magic for this iteration of the trilogy, Kratos must take on mythology's darkest creatures while solving intricate puzzles throughout his merciless quest to destroy Olympus.
