Nayanthara all set to scorch the screen with an item song in the Dhanush-starrer, Maapillai directed by Suraaj?

The movie is a remake of Superstar Rajnikanth’s (Dhanush’s father-in-law) 1989 film of the same name and Nayan, who is shooting with Arya in Kumbakonam, is still in two minds. For, if she does decide to do the number, she will have to juggle her dates with a Telugu film she’s doing with Balakrishna.

Nayanthara herself is no newcomer to item numbers. Two of the three item songs that she has done so far, have been with Rajinikanth (The famous song Balle Lakka…from Sivaji and Om Zarare from Kuselan), and the other special number was with Vijay in the chartbuster Kodambakkam Area…from Sivakasi.

Nayan’s only film with Dhanush, with whom she incidentally shares an excellent rapport, was the superhit Yaaradi Nee Mohini. And now, after this song, she will be the only heroine who will have made a ‘special song’ appearance with both father-in-law and son-in-law! Her appearance in the song will also give Maapilai title value and an extra edge. The beauty however, refused to comment on whether or not she will do this special ‘kuthu’ number which is tuned by hit maker Mani Sharma.

Nayanthara as of now, has only one Tamil film, Boss Engira Bhaskaran with Arya and sources close to her say that she refers to these exclusive songs as ‘special cameo appearances’. She does not believe she is turning into an item girl. Her argument is that, when all top Bollywood heroines like Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor have done numerous ‘special cameo appearances’, why call them item numbers?

Meanwhile, the actress is also doing a crucial cameo in the climax of Venkat Prabhu-directed Goa. This one, however, is not a song. At the end of the day, it’s good money for Nayanthara, for just one or two days of shooting, not to mention the adulation and appreciation that will come her way.
